van nuys boulevard (pacoima)

In a community hard-hit by the foreclosure crisis, Van Nuys Boulevard is ready for inclusive revitalization and investment. A center for community services and non-profits, Van Nuys Boulevard can be the showcase for a changing Los Angeles where Angelenos are able not just to drive, but to safely walk or bike on their travels. Great Streets seeks to build connections to Pacoima City Hall in particular, strengthening the civic engagement and enabling positive change in the community. Great Streets will also improve walkability and bikeability in anticipation of Metro's East San Fernando Valley Transit Corridor project.

A Vision for a Safer Van Nuys Boulevard

In partnership with Council District 7, the Bureau of Street Services and LADOT, Great Streets brought a safety-oriented overhaul to Van Nuys Blvd in Pacoima, featuring 16 new high-visibility crosswalks, as well as protected and buffered bike lanes.

Starting in Spring 2016 Great Streets started talking to the community about a plan for Van Nuys Boulevard that balances the needs of the street and calms traffic. The goal? To provide a safe comfortable street for Pacoima residents, business owners and visitors to use whether they're walking, biking, riding transit or driving.

In April 2016, we discussed this plan with the community and will continue to engage with stakeholders to ensure that these safety improvements on Van Nuys Boulevard enhance Pacoima's character and identity.
