Held concurrently with CicLAvia on Sunday March 6, 2016, Pacoima Street Values supported the community with a day of fun and engagement. CicLAvia closed down a four-mile stretch of Van Nuys Boulevard to motor-vehicle traffic, creating a safe pedestrian zone. As with other Challenge Grant events, this busy corridor was transformed into place for people on bikes and on foot. Pacoima Street Values leveraged the increased street activity during CicLAvia to invite community members and visitors from across the Los Angeles metropolitan area to support local small businesses. LA-Más and Pacoima Beautiful helped five businesses along Van Nuys Blvd revamp their storefronts to help attract new customers and create a unique sense of place along the corridor. These businesses were showcased on a tour led by our Challenge Grant partners. Pacoima Street Values demonstrated that businesses can use local, “DIY” placemaking efforts to support vibrant sidewalk life.
