The North Figueroa corridor in Highland Park is an impressive mix of the old and new, a diversity that is reflected in the communities and businesses present. Fig Jam was a collaborative effort between the Highland Park Business Improvement District, Gensler, Occidental College, and Councilmember Gil Cedillo's office. These community partners highlighted existing community assets by leading four different walking tours that showcased healthy streets, civic engagement, arts and culture, and food and business, respectively. In addition, participants were invited to consider how their streets might be further improved to create a greater sense of community. In seeking to build streets as public spaces, Fig Jam encouraged residents and local businesses alike to invest more in their communities.
